ATM

As new Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) techniques are introduced into the air traffic control system, enhanced Air Traffic Management (ATM) is required to safely optimize the use of the airspace. CNS/ATM is the adaptation of modern technology to enhance communication links between aircraft and to increase the controller’s ability to monitor and control flights.

GECI’s Air Traffic Management system provides the necessary tools for air traffic controllers to balance the goals of separation and flow efficiency within the airspace. The ATM system includes:

  • Sophisticated flight and surveillance data processing
  • Multi-radar and ADS processing
  • Short and medium term conflict prediction
  • Minimum safe altitude and hazardous airspace penetration alerts
  • Electronic (and paper) flight progress strips
  • Weather and NOTAM processing
  • Data filtering
  • Automated pre-authorization management
  • Automated billing system
  • Flight plan conformance monitoring
  • Air traffic flow management
  • Data recording and playback
  • Simulation and training

GECI’s Aeronautical Message Handling System (AMHS) links the ATM System with the international aeronautical fixed network to exchange flight plan data, NOTAM and weather data.

Additional convenient features such as ultra-high resolution colour monitors for the display of radar, ADS, synthetic targets and weather in different symbols on aeronautical maps and an ergonomically designed human-machine interface enable the operations personnel to operate the sector workstations with ease.

Communications, Navigation and Surveillance:

Our turnkey and fully integrated solutions include state of the art and field proven, ICAO and NATO compliant:

  • Communications (VCCS; VHF, UHF, HF radios; fibre-optic, microwave, satellite communications)
  • Navigation and landing systems (VOR/DME, NDB, ILS, TACAN)
  • Surveillance systems (Primary/Secondary/Mode S and Precision Approach radars and Automatic Dependent Surveillance (ADS))
  • Modern Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar (MSSR).

Using the latest digital communications technology, GECI integrates remotely located CNS installations into the ATM system located at the Air Traffic Services (ATS) center, and provides a private voice and data network. The GECI CNS Monitoring System (CMS) has the unique ability to interface directly with all the CNS assets serving a particular ATS facility and provide a real time monitoring capability from a single Systems Maintenance Console at a central location such as an ACC or a Maintenance Depot.

GECI’s Voice Communications and Control System (VCCS) provides voice communications capability for air-ground, inter-sector and inter-facility functions. The VCCS is an easy to use, menu-driven voice switch with multi-colour touch sensitive panels (TSP) providing comprehensive audio communications capability at your fingertips.

GECI's modern Remote Control and Monitoring Systems (RCMS) integrates status data at a central air traffic facility to provide control of remotely located aeronautical radios directly from ATC workstations. The RCMS uses a distributed architecture with multi-processors to monitor, report and control remotely located aeronautical (VHF, UHF, HF) radios by tele-metering equipment status data and control commands on existing channels. The system provides ATC Operations staff with the ability to change radio channels easily and reliably. The RCMS can easily interface with other communications equipment such as VSAT terminals as well.

GECI’s Aeronautical Message Handling System (AMHS) provides the digital connectivity between an air traffic facility and external agencies. The ICAO-compliant AMHS supports international interfaces protocols such as AFTN, TCP-IP, X.25 and X.400.

Automatic Dependent Surveillance :

GECI is a pioneer in the development and supply of ADS systems. The GECI ADS System is a turnkey system which provides a comprehensive ground system capability to:

  • Receive ADS-B reports from aircraft
  • Provide two-way communications for ADS-C and for Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) transactions
  • Integrate other surveillance sources if these become available
  • Process received surveillance data for subsequent integration with flight data using GECI’s ATM system
  • GECI turnkey solutions have been judged by aviation and military authorities as fully compliant, state of the art and cost-effective. With global, hands on experience, a track record in delivering fully compliant systems and an ongoing availability inherent in the close relationships we build with our customers, you’ll find that it’s not just GECI products that are reliable, but our people too.
